It is a chemical found in human and animal cartilage and soft connective tissue usually found attached to proteins as part of a proteoglycan. A chondroitin chain can have over 100 individual sugars, each of which can be sulfated in variable positions and quantities. Chondroitin sulfate is an important structural component of cartilage and soft tissues, and provides much of its resistance to compression. Chondroitin sulfate is one of the most important GAGs in the equine joint and it is similar to the glycosaminoglycan in articular cartilage and soft connective tissue.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>How It Works:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Chondroitin sulfate (PSGAG) is a sulfated GAG and the principal GAG in PSGAG and are also important components of the proteoglycan complexes in the articular cartilage matrix. (Chondroitin sulfate (PSGAG) is chemically similar to the glycosaminoglycans in the articular cartilage matrix.) PSGAG is a potent proteolytic enzyme inhibitor and diminishes or reverses the pathologic processes of traumatic or degenerative joint disease which results in a net loss of cartilage matrix components. PSGAG improves joint function by reducing synovial fluid protein levels and increasing synovial fluid hyaluronic acid concentration in traumatized equine carpal and hock joints.
