How It Works?
Omeprazole oral is used to reduce the amount of acid in your stomach. It’s used to aid in the reduction of discomfort in animals with high acidity in the stomach.
ColicGuardTMpaste works becausea horse cannot handle large amounts of feed therefore it must eat frequent, small portions of feed. The body produces acid throughout the entire day. Since horses are grazers and in most cases are confined to a stall, roughage intake is interrupted and acidity increases, which can lead to ulceration or eating away at the stomach and colon’s lining. By reducing appetite, this starts a vicious cycle of pain and suffering for your horse.
OMEPRAZOLE as a paste form breaks the cycle at the acid pump. OMEPRAZOLE as a paste form stops stomach acid production at its source by inhibiting the acid pump. This may allow OMEPRAZOLE as a paste form to provide superior aid of equine stomach ulcers because its mode of action blocks acid secretion, regardless of the stimulus. Equine ulcers have been found in horses of a wide variety of breeds, ages and disciplines including:
– 93% of racehorses and performance horses have GASTRIC ULCERS of which 65% of them have COLONIC ULCERS.
– 63% of non-racing performance horses
– 51% of foals
Horses with stomach ulcers do not often exhibit any obvious clinical signs and horse owners often do not know that their horses are actually suffering in silence. Only your veterinary surgeon can accurately diagnose equine stomach ulcers, but you as a horseman can help by looking for changes in your horse and reporting them to your veterinary surgeon. Here are a few signs to look for:
– Change in eating and drinking behavior
– Change in attitude (for the worse)
– Weight loss
– Dull hair coat
– Poor performance
– Recurrent colic
– Foals may also possibly grind their teeth and/or lay on their backs
